Honda Authorized Mechanic says for the Cat I should only use genuine Honda parts, because of the heat factory parts don't work or last. My car is older & with a lot of miles (have no other problems) should make this investment? If factory part ok, which ones are the better?

Oem fits best and easiest to install. Hondas are low polluting and dont get that hot. So any convertor should do just fine.
