Engine feels like stalling sitting at stop lights

I have a 2001 Honda Civic LX with 89,000 miles. I do not have a check engine light on but when I am sitting at a stop light, occasionally the engine abruptly shakes for a second like it is about to die but then recovers as if nothing happened. It hits randomly and so intensely that it is startling. I do not know where to begin to investigate this problem. Any suggestions?

There is a technical sservice bullitin on a start clutch assy that fits the description, 5.0 hr job.

However there is also a software update regarding stalling at stops.

There are a few saftey recalls that you should make sure were done that are not related.
