Had water pump and timing belt replaced 3 months ago (~ 6000 miles). Engine overheated, leakng pump, coolant in engine block, radiator damage, head gasket, possible cylinder head damage. Could the water pump have been defective or not installed properly to cause damage this much later? Should I have seen some indication of the problem sooner?

Hi slowlearner,

If the water pump is leaking after the replacement, it could ne a faulty pump or improper installation. Without looking at the engine, it would not be possible to determine the cause.

Earlier indication wuld be depletion of coolant from the system and overheating issues.

If the water pump was bad prior to replacement and overheating had occurred, then it could ba a latent fault that originated from the initial overheating.
