2005 Honda Civic Cricket noise under hood

2005 Honda Civic 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 74000K miles

I have a 200 Civic LX. I have a cricket noise up the hood every so often. The noise only happens when the car is idling. It doesn't matter whether the clutch is up or down. The noise goes away instantly when the gas pedal is touched. Sometimes this stops the noise and sometimes it doesn't.

Any help would be greatful.

You may have a worn or loose accessory belt or a noisy pulley that is just starting to fail.

First thing I would do is check the condition and adjustment of all the accessory belts. Does it sound like it's coming from the driver-side?

The noise sounds like it is coming from the drivers side. Not an alternator noise (runs nice and quiet). The sound comes from lower in the engine compartment. I'll check the belts first. If it is a pully is a DIY project or do I need a mechanic?

You will most likely have to bring it into a shop if it is a pulley. I believe there are no easy idler pullies on that vehicle.

It is most likely a belt issue though, so I wouldn't worry too much about it being a pulley.
