Engine Mechanical problem
2001 Honda Civic Engine Size unknown Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 147000 miles

In Nov. Of 2007 I took my car to a mechanic for overheating problems. The mechanic rebuilt and replaced my head gasket. He also gave me new spark plugs, changed the oil, gave me a new oil filter and flushed the radiator.

I got a 6 month/6,000 mile warranty. I got the car back on 11/13. Cost about $800.

After about 4500 miles the car began having problems again. I took it back and they fixed the aluminum head again. They covered this under the warranty, but they also said that my pistons and piston rings were no good and I would have to pay for those. I told them to do it, but before I agreed I asked if this will fix all my problems or do I need a new engine. They said no enigne required that these repairs would take care of it.

Again, 6 month/6000 mile warranty. I got the car back 2/12/08. Cost $575.

On the 18th, less than 100 miles later, of this month the car blew a rod through the enigine block and I was on the side of the road again. This time I had to incur a $175 fee for towing and I know I am looking at an engine replacement.

Should this be covered under their warranty and are they laible for tow reimbursement? My car is currently at their garage, but I haen't heard rom them yet. I am severly upset since the repairs that were already done are pretty much negated now that the engine has blown. This has caused me to lose hours from work along with having to borrow a truck from a friend that has a V8, gas guzzling engine.

What are my options, do I have any recourse against the mechanic?

Any help would be appreciated.

If they did anything with the pistons/rings then they had the rods unblolted and out of the engine. This is their baby. Yes, they are liable for tow fees. If they refuse to stand behind the work, get an estimate from another shop for another engine and sue them. If your threw a rod, it is junk
