I have been having an intermittent problem with my 2001 honda civic. The check engine light has been coming on, and when it does, the car will idle and rev, at about 1,500-2,000 rpm. When this happens, shifting feels odd, like its out of joint/loose, and first gear is hard to use, sometimes stalls out. If I shut the car off and restart, the problem will sometimes resolve for a while.

I had a code test run on it and got the result of:
P1519: malfunction IAC
P1298: malfunction control fuel metering

Any suggestions on what to do/how much repairs might run me?

Thanks!

Hi stastnysmom,

P1298 = Electrical Load Detector ( ELD ) Circuit High Voltage.

The ELD is most likely faulty and requires replacement. Would you be able to perform diagnostics if I provide you with the diagnostic procedures?

Are you sure that is the code?
P1299 is for the IAC but not P1298.

P1519 = IAC valve circuit malfunction.
Check the IAC connectors for looseness and contaminations.

Repair cost would depend on the cause and can vary significantly if it is a wiring problem.
