My wifes car has a louder than normal sound("a rumble") that comes from the component that is attached to the pulley in the very front of the motor on the drivers side(i think its the ac compressor). Supposedly this happens for "like two seconds, then gets a lot quieter." But she thinks the motor might be idling a bit high as well. About 10k miles ago this car got a new head gasket and planed head, water pump and serp. Belt and has run fine until now, although she hasn't driven it since the noise started, just started it and let it idle. I think its the ac compressor thats making the noise but i'm not sure. Do you have any clue of what might be wrong here? Sorry I couldnt give you more info, im in afghanistan right now and this is the most I could get out of her :). Thanks a bunch!

It could be the a/c clutch or pulley making the noise or it could be the belt is out of adjustment.

First make sure that the belt is good and tight then go from there.

Thanks for the help, one other question, it seems that my year civic is notorious for tranny problems. It comes out of second gear if u dont hold it in but other than that the tranny works fine. Does it need a whole new tranny/ rebuild. Whats the cheapest way to deal with this? Thanks a lot. P.S. I like the f4i, I used to have an 02, great bike!

If it's only second gear, you most likely need a 2nd gear synchro assembly. So basically, you need to rebuilt the transmission.

Unfortunately this is a costly repair. Some guys swear by GM synchromesh fixing small honda transmission problems like this. I've had some success by doing the fluid switch to cure slight grinds, but for something of this magnitude you should get a transmission rebuild.

And yeah, the f4i is an amazing bike! Wish I had the money for a new 600RR
