I've have some rattling noises coming from beneath my car. At first I had thought it was the heat shield. When getting my oil changed at Mr. Lube, they said the heat shield was not rattling, and that it was something in the exhaust pipe.

I recently had my ball joint replaced and brakes and the noise still continues. What could it be?

Hi sportyspice,

Thank you for the donation.

If the rattling is from within the exhaust system, it could be a faulty catalytic converter, the internals have dislodged themselves.

Which area is the noise coming from?

The noise is coming from underneath the car beneath the drivers seat. If it is the catalytic converter would there be any other symptoms?

Thanks !

Catalytic converter noise would rattle intermittently and mostly when the idling speed is low, the rattle would be more prominent.

Try banging the cat converter with gloved hands and note if it rattles.
