2000 Honda Civic 4 doors hard to open

My honda civic 2000 doors are hard to open and it gives knock sound when opening. Operation is not smooth. Is it normal?
i will appreciate if someone help me to solve this.

Hi goluBella,

No, it is not normal.

Seems the door is out of adjustment and it could either be wear of the door hinges or door striker on body out of adjustment.

Hi KHLow2008,

i appreciate your reply. Those noises I mentioned are coming when they are further opened. When going to open fully. I can hear knock sound in 2 stages. For an example when the door is going to open more than 30 degrees the one knock sound will come and also more than 60 degrees another knock sound can be heard.

When doors are opend, a restrictor allows the door to be held at 2 different opened angle.

This restrictor is a metal bar like item located between the upper and lower hinges. It lacks lubrication and cold p[ossibly be rusted. Apply some grease to it and open/close a few times to loosen it up.

If application of grease fails to solve the problem, the restrictor would have to be replaced.
