I have a 97 Honda Civic Ex and recently it has been giving me problems. First, I noticed that the car was slightly over heating after being driven for a while. I drive a long distance everyday on the freeway and when I get to the street and I stop at a red light the temp needle begins to go above the normal but not all the way to hot. Second, the Idle has started to go high also. It happens randomly and the car doesn't need to be hot. But the Idle does not go up and down it just stays high like i'm pressing on the gas pedal. Third, this just started a few days ago, when I turn my car up in the morning it starts fine and I drive to work. When I get to work I turn it of and try to turn it back on but it won't start. I thought that maybe it was the overheating problem but I tried it at home and started the car for 1 minute and turned it off. Well the car did not start. It turns and turns but will not fire up. I check for spark and it has it, I check for fuel and it works. There is no CHECK ENGINE light so I don't know if it is a sensor. After waiting for a few minutes I tried starting it again and it worked but the Idle was at 1500 rpms and wouldn't go down. What could it be? Please help.

Thanks.

Your over-heating problem may be because of a cooling fan issue. I think this is your problem because you said it only happens after you are stopped. Do you hear the fan turn on when the vehicle is over-heating?

Your idle issue is most likely caused by a vacuum leak.

The two are not related.
