1996 Honda Civic Smell of gas on startup

1996 Honda Civic 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 160k miles

Recently my Civic has been idling rough on startup. Along with that has been the smell of raw gas. I've had an exhaust leak at the manifold for a while and not sure if that has anything to do with it or not. Spark plugs are fairly new. I don't see any leaks. Any ideas? Thank you.

You may have an EVAP system leak. If there are any codes for the EVAP syustem, that is your problem.

Otherwise, hook up a fuel pressure gauge and test for any leaks in the system. If that is fine, then it is most likely the gas from the exhaust manifold leak that you are smelling.
