My husband replaced the radiator in my friend's Honda Civic. Now it seems to have blown a head gasket. She had a radiator leak for a few days before he replaced it and she was always checking the antifreeze level. Never overheated. Did my well meaning husband do anything to cause the blown head or does that just happen? After he replaced the radiator, he did not tighten a spot and she had some tranny fluid leakage, but not long. Please let me know what you think may have caused the blown head gasket. Thanks!

Hi there,

As long as he filled the coolant and bled it and made sure that the thermostat had opened and that there was circulation, I feel that it may just be a case of very bad luck. There may have been a small head issue to start with and when the cooling system pressure was restored, it has now come to the for.
