Usually when driving around 3000 rpms in fourth or fifth gear randomly the car's rpms will jump up and down rapidly and feel like it's going to die, unless we let go of the gas. Though once we gas it again a couple seconds later it'll start jumping again and eventually the car will turn off. Then we won't be able to turn it back on until a few minutes later after leaving the car completely off. What would be the causes to this problem?

When it dies, test fuel and spark. You'll most likely be missing one. If you are missing spark, it's an internal distributor problem (coil, icm, etc.) If you have no fuel, it's usually a fuel pump or main relay issue.
