the hood release cable has come loose and I can not open the hood. What do I need to take apart to reach and activate the lock on the hood manually, and how do I activate the lock so it will release?

Where did the cable come loose? Did it break by the handle inside or close to the latch? This is a rotten job with no real easy answer.

The cable has come loose at the lock release. There is no way to make use of the cable. I need to find out how to reach and release the lock manually.

If you search under the Honda forum for hood release you should find several requests and possible solutions. This involves long arms, ingenious thinking and raising the car to get access from under the car.
