Is it normal for the radiator on this car to develop a leak this early in its life? The car has been well serviced throughout its eight-year lifetime and is garaged at night and on weekends.

Yes it is completely normal. And 8 years isn't considered 'early' in a vehicle's life.

Thanks F4I_Guy, That quells my suspicion that the Honda dealer was just trying to sell me a radiator. I've been lucky over the years with autos (I'm 71) and have not experienced many, if any, cooling system problems that required a new radiator. My cars: 1959 Chevy Biscayne (straight 6), 1961 Austin Healey 3000, 1964 Peugeot 404, 1969 Ford Fairlane 500, 1979 Mazda GLC, 1967 Buick LeSabre (used), 1990 Honda Accord (4 cyl), 1993.5 Nissan Pickup (4 cyl), 2001 Honda Accord (4 cyl), and 2008 Mazda 3i. All of these have been great cars. I lucked out in 1979 buying the Mazda GLC (probably the best car I've owned so far). That year, Consumer Reports ranked the new Volkswagon Rabbit the top pick in compact cars. The Mazda ranked second. I test drove both and picked the Mazda. The 1979 Rabbit turned out to be a lemon.
