I need to use my key to bypass the shift lock every time to put my car in gear. My shifter moves freely after this but once I place it in park again, it won’t release without shutting the car off and using
the shift release with the key. Coincidentally, none of the electric controls on my steering wheel work either (cruise or horn) which started at the same time. This problem started today. What could be the problem?

Hi princess2384,

The shift interlock is not working correctly and preventing the shift solenoid from releasing to allow gears to be shifted out of park.

Check if the brake lights are working when pedal is depressed. If they are not working, the interlock system would not release.

You could have a blown fuse in underhood relay box, check the STOP light fuse. This could be related to the horn and steering controls.
