Absolutely. It's better to change it now, than have a major repair when it breaks. Good heads up thinkn.

I have read that some later models don't need the timing belt changed b/c it's not a belt, but a chain. Does this include the 2001 model or does that start with 2003?

THE 2001 HAS A T- BELT THAT MUST BE REPLACED AT AROUND 90,000 ALSO REPLACE THE WATER PUMP AND DRIVE BELTS CHECK THE T-BELT TENSIONER IF HYDRALIC FOR LEAKS THEN REPLACE ALSO. ANOTHER THING THAT SHOULD BE CHECKED WITH YOUR MILAGE IS THE COOLANT HOSES, AND YOUR IGNITION SYSTEM [PLUGS WIRES CAP ROTOR V6 HAVE COIL PACKS THOSE YOU DO NOT WORRY ABOUT JUST CHECK THE PLUGS ON THAT CAR]
