Steering problem
2000 Honda Accord 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

My power stearing pump is making a whining noise like it is low on fluid When it is cold or Hot. Some one told me to change the pump out, and it is still there. What could it be. Thanks Curt

First make sure that it is not the belt and the belt is tensioned properly with no tears or rips.

It may also be the power steering pump pulley. If there is any side to side play on that pulley, it is your culprit. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure if it is a bad pulley you must replace the whole unit.

I already replaced the pump with a used one yesterday and it makes the same noise. Do you think it is the Rack and pinon, or someone said it may be the orings on the inlet and outlet on the pump. What do you think. Thank you Curt

Okay since you have replaced the pump already I am bit skeptical as to if it is actually a power steering noise.

When does the noise occur? Does it follow the rpms? Meaning if you revv the vehicle will the noise follow. What happens if you turn the wheel from lock to lock? Is your steering hard at certain points? And did you replace the belt?

Please do your best to answer those questions so I can further assist you.
