1999 Honda Accord Seeking Insight to transmission problem?

Transmission problem
1999 Honda Accord 6 cyl Automatic 60000 miles

Vehicle now only wants to go in low or reverse. If other gear is used, vehicle simply throws itself into neutral and will not go. Will get a dianostic but hoping there are possibilities other than replacing the transmission. Vehicle family owned since new with no young people as drivers. Well cared for. Driven in Arizona (hot), sorry cannot pay, lost my job.

Is the D4 light blinking while driving?

Problem is most probably caused by the shift solenoids. Get the scan done and come back with the exact trouble codes and we shall see what needs to be done.

Thanks a million. Happy to hear it probably is not the transmission needing to be replaced. This lady will chat with Honda tech and probably arrange a tow next week to seek an answer. Appreciate your response very much. :)

Most parts store provides the scanning free or for a nominal fee. Get it done and let me know the exact trouble code and we can try to get to the bottom of it.
