My Accord's ignition suddenly seized.
I can turn the key enough to unlock the steering but only about halfway between Off and the first ignition stage I.

The only options I have been offered are to replace the entire ignition system and get nee keys programmer. The cost of the ignition system is more than $350 alone.

Note I can start the car by removing the ignition wheel with a screw driver as long as the key is in the ignition tinamous the chip to be detected for the immobiliser.

So it would seem that the problem is restricted to the barrel turning and nothing else. However there does not seem to be an easy solution such as being to replace just the lock barrel.

Or is there? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Actually the barrell could be re-coded by a technician at the dealer, they should have a tumbler set and you wouldn't even have to change the key. Problem is it could be 1hr or so in labor costs and not all technicians, even those in the dealer know how to change tumblers.
