My mechanic diagnosed my Honda's A/C problem as a discharge hose failure. According to my wife, he claims that if I do not have the hose replaced (for around $700) the serpentine belt could fail. Something about the A/C system distributing oil. She didn't understand, and it didn't make much sense to me.

Is this true? If so, is replacing the hose the only solution, or is there something I could do that won't cost so much? I can easily live without the air conditioning.

Total BS get away from this crook. No discharge is $700 and has nothing to do with drive belt only if compressor locks up. But if all Freon has leaked out then AC comp won't come on so failure not likely. Go to an AC shop and get another diagnosis.
