1998 Honda Accord check engine light

Hi. I am getting a code for both egr valve and transmission. Car is running excellent. When I disconnect power light goes away, comes back after couple days or high mileage. Is it likely that something is wrong with my tranny? I called a dealer and he told me to bring in for $90 diagnostic, and that even though transmission is working fine I might need new one. Anything I can try at home to figure this out? TIA-Kevin

Thanks for getting back to me. EGR code is PO401 and tranny code is PO700. I had a tech from a non-honda shop look at it and the EGR tube is clogged, needing the fix from the bulletin where it has to be drilled out. He said the Tranny code seemed erroneous, as he did not have a description for it at "700".

Sorry have to disappoint you. I don't have any more data then you already have.

If you can do a manual bridging of the diagnostic connector to get the manual error code, it might help.

Thanks for the help here. Is it likely that the PO700 is erroneous code that should not come up in your opinion? Tranny seems to be operating fine and the fluid looks good, all the way around, but this tech told me there were problems with '98 trannies.

Yes, it is possible. You need a diagnostic scan to confirm the code. Normal scanner would not give you the details.
