Engine Performance problem
1997 Honda Accord 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

This car will run and start when the engine is cold, but when is gets about 195 degrees is wont take the gas. You try to restart it and it wont start. But if you let the engine cool down it will start and run until it gets hot again.

Hi kernsue2007,

When it could not start, did you check what is missing, fuel or sparks?

Here is a link for you to check out what could be missing. Choose the symptom that most aptly describe your problem and check what is missing.

Let me know what you find.

If fuel is missing, it most probably is caused by a faulty PGM-FI main relay.

Yellow or orange sparks indicates a weak ignition coil. You do not have to replace the whole distributor, just the ignition coil would do.

Internal parts should be compatible with other Honda models.

Don't the scrap yard have it?

We shall forget about the other post and continue with this tillwe settle the problem.

In fact you should have only post one question for the same problem.

Cant find any used ones at junk yards around here. Could it be the ECM (computer)? It's not showing a check engine light and the manual said something about a code 0.

If there are sparks and fuel is present, it should not be the computer.

You can try getting a new coil from the parts store, it should not be too costly.
