I noticed several weeks ago that it was a little harder than normal to change gears in my automatic honda accord. Now when I put my car iin reverse sometimes it will hesitate, then slowly roll back and then the car will jump or jerk. It feels like I have hit something backing up. But then it will be ok in all other gears and the car runs smooth.. I checked transmission fluid & it is full but brownish in color. Sad to say I have not changed the fluid in 5 years. If I drain and refill the transmission fluid will this help or have I ruined the transmission by not changing this fluid?

Hi dsiferplease1,

If the shifting is harsh in all gears, changing the transmission fluid might still work. However if only specific gears are acting up, it could mean the tran is bad or failing as the seals have hardened over time and the non replacement of the fluids have accelerated the process. This would cause pressure leakages resulting in delays for the gears to catch.
