Upon very light acceleration it drops a cylinder. My garage is on a hill and when I drive the car into the garage it fires on only 3 cylinders. One is not fireing at all. Does the same thing when you back off the gas pedal very lightly like on the expressway when you need to slow down slightly for a car in front of you.I have replaced spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, PCV valve. I've checked the compression and that is very good. The injectors have been cleaned and it runs only a little better. Any idea's?

Thanks, JJ

Hi jjwood,

If the rpm is stuttering at between 1500 to 2500 rpm, then I would suggest check the EGR system.

It doesn't really stutter. It has one cylinder that just stops firing. Feels just like you pull off a plug wire. BUT. It is in that RPM range

Thanks!

Hi jjwood,

Temporarily disconnect the EGR vacumn hose and see if the problem goes away.

Hi jjwood,

You have found the source of the problem and now we are getting to the difficult section.

There are many possible causes for the EGR to be operating strangely.

1. Throttle position sensor calibration.
2. EGR valve.
3. EGR solenoid.
4. ECM
5. EGR valve exhaust passage.
6. O2 sensor.

I would suggest getting the eingine on a diagnostic to check all the operating data readings tp isolate the cause.
