I was driving home today and check engine light came on. I popped the hood with the engine running and noticed that neither cooling fan was running, but that car hadn't indicated overheating. How do I check to see if I can fix myself?

Hi Sandra Huffman,

When fans don't work, it would not cause the Check Engine Light to show. Get a scan done to find out what is causing the CEL.

Fans do not work until they coolant temperature rises to a predetermined value or when the AC is turned on.

Did you test if they come on with the AC?
