My wife inherited her mothers 1994 Honda Accord. It's in mint condition with only 40,000 miles. I know the transmission has never been serviced. It doesn't have enough miles on to hurt anything but the fluid is 13 years old. Should it be serviced at this point or left alone? On a Ford Tauras that I had with high milage I was told that it would do more harm than good to service the transmission at that point. The new fluid would do damage to the pumps and seals because the fluid had high milage. Would low milage and many years do the same thing?

There are several theories about that and I don't know what to believe. So in the end it is your call. I personally would not change it yet but would want to make sure that it is clean looking and not contaminated. A true Honda mechanic at the shop would tell you to change it. Your call in the end.
