Hav a 93 10yr anniversary Accord. It is "spottering". Either at taking off or while crusing the tach wil go crazy, moving up and down in RPM's and car wil make "gurgling sounds" while this is hapening. The worst part is while cruising it will just die (but stil on)and thefore making it dangerious to drive. This happened for a couple of weeks. I replaced the spark plug wires, the plugs, the coil, the module, the distributor for a used one, fuel filter and even the cat! But no change, also ran the car temporaly with a healthy ECU but stil nothing. It wasnt until I bought a new but aftermarket distributor from advance autoparts that the car actualy ran 80% better for litle over a month. Stil would have a "hecup'"once in a while and the tach needle would move around a litle but for the most part it ran ok till the last two weeks. It is actualy worst than before when is was actualy bad! I was told the aftermarket dist would wrk temp but I would need the original part to fully fix. True?

Hi maxspd11,

The symptom indicates a bad ignition coil and after market or rebuilts sometimes do not last. Not surprised it is causing the problem.

If you have the original distributor, replacing the coil with OEM parts should have solved the problem.

Btw check the ground connections at the thermostat housing. It could cause erratic performance if it is contaminated.

Wel as far as ignition I did replace the coil, the distributor(twice), wires, plugs but nothing. And lately I replaced the ground wire going from the batt to the trany bcause it was so rotten that I have no idea how it was still working. But something hapen tonight for the second time that realy has me even more clueless. On jun 29th wile crusiing on the highway, it was severely spottering and suddenly my exhaust muffler LITERALY BLEW UP HOLE and came apart. So I took it to the muffelr shop and replaced the entire exhaust. But tonight while driving home again it was severely spottering and again it BLEW UP MY MUFFLER AGAIN! Guys this is crazy and Ive never seen a muffler blow up in a stock accord Never. This exhaust is brand new and has no rust but it stil couldnt withstand whatever it is that made it blow.

If it is the catalytic comverter that blew up, you have a bad misfiring in the cylinders and when this happens, it would be operating RED HOT.

At least one of the spark plugs/cylinder is not working correctly causing the misfiring and excessive unburnt gas getting to the catalytic converter would cause the blowing up.
