Steering problem
1992 Honda Accord Automatic 176000 miles

When trying to stop, the brakes weren't slowing down the vehicle like they should, and the brake pedal went mushy. At the same time, the steering seemed to become loose with the wheels only barely turning, even with the steering wheel turned completely upside down. Could these two things be related? What could the problem be?

Sounds like you have a brake fluid leak. Yes these could be related. If you only have brake pressure at one wheel, the steering wheel will pull to one side.

I would NOT drive the vehicle anymore, get it towed to a shop.

Thanks for the advice--don't worry; it's being towed as I write this. We'll look into it.
