Hello and thanks for donating

If your speedometer is reading inaccurate most of the time, check for an improperly installed speed sensor, defective instrument panel printed circuit or bad wiring to the instrument panel.

Read my origional question again. When my speedometer works it seems to be accurate. However it is irratic as to when it works. And I don't know what to change out? The speed
sensor or the shaft the the speed sensor attaches to
that goes in the transmission?

Yes, I read it correctly the first time. I simply used the wrong word, I meant erratic, my apologies.

The speed sensor is mounted on top of the transaxle, just below the thermostat housing. If the shaft was at fault then the speedo would be inoperative all the time. Also check out the ground wiring at the speed sensor, a loose or damaged ground could cause intermittent issues as well.
