Installed a new outside left front door handle. Door won't close. The door latch strikes the door jam's catch and stops. The door's latch mechanism is rotated forward and won't move.

The door lock is in the locked position, pull back on the lock with a screw driver, (as if it was the latch on the pillar) while operating handle, If it will not undo handle rods out of adjustment or lock has failed.

I got the door closed. Now it will only open from the inside. How can I adjust the outside handle rod to work? Thanks, Joegr@comcast. Net

Hi there,

Make sure that the door hinges are not sagged, and the lock strikes the striker plate on the pillar squarely. With the trim off look inside the door at the rod that connects the external handle with the lock assembly, I would think that there should be some adjustment to lengthen or shorten the rod as req, I feel that the rod may need to be lengthened. Check this out next.
