Engine Mechanical problem
1986 Holden Commodore 6 cyl Automatic

i have a VL 86 commodore.
symptoms/ sometimes starts and runs like a dream two minutes later, no power when I exalerate chokes and stalls. Then turns over on restart but no ignition. Eventualy starts but as soon as I think its fine and take off a few meters, again no power on exaleration and eventualy stalls.

some other odd things I have noticed. Fuel pump sounded like a dieing cow (the buzzing sound sounded like its labouring) I changed the fuel pump and filter (new) thinking its on the way out. After replaceing it I started the car while still jacked up and pump sounded like a dream and car ran like new. Lowered the car removed the jack and test driven it. Lasted a good couple of minutes thinking problem solved and garaged the car. 1 hour later started the car to go out, drove 100 meters and back to the same problem, were I exalerate and no power then stalling. Pump just like the old one sounding funny.

some one advised its the distributor another says its the feeder in the tank. I just want to kick the doors in at the moment lol

Hi thanks for quick reply. I have a 1/4 of tank worth of fuel. I have not had a chance to fill it. Problem only just happened days ago. Though I must admit it was close to empty when it first began to give me troubles and with crawling and starting and stopping I got to a petrol station and poured about 20lt

Hi there,

I would fill the tank and see how it goes, I feel it is a pick up problem, if the noise is gone or far less with a full tank, I feel that his will be the case.
