1985 Holden Commodore banging

I have a vk with a 308 in it. The other day it started to make a quite ticking noise. After about a day it turned into a loud banging noise it feels like one bang per rev. I stopped driving it straight away but whilst I was driving it to get it home, it didnt feel like it lost any power. Asise from the loud banging niose it running really nice. Any suggestions

Hi there,

the tick could well be a hydraulic lifter but I have never heard then advance into a banging noise, but still stranger things have happened, I would be getting the lifters checked first.
