The ignition barrel does not 'pop out' to fully?

When we finish driving and put the car into park and then turn and remove the key the engine stops. (Fine). BUT the ignition barrel does not 'pop out' to fully turn the car off. The radio stays on and if we open the door the warning buzzer goes off. And we cannot lock the door centrally using the key remote. (As it thinks the car is still on?)

If we put the key back in the barrel and wiggle it around a little it will click and pop out then everything is fine and we can lock the car with the key button central locking.

So how do I fix this 'stuck' key barrel so that when we remove the key it fully shuts down and the ignition is fully off including the electricals? Currently we have a very fiddly 20 seconds of wiggling the key around trying to 'flick' the key slot so it pops shut.

Thanks
Simon

Hello,

It sounds like the lock cylinder is malfunctioning. Likely lose or worn components that keeping the key from releasing all the way.
That is why you are having this 'stuck' issue.

The best option would be to replace the lock cylinder. Typical you should be able to have the new lock cylinder re-keyed to work with the current key. That way one key will work on the door, trunk and the ignition.

Since the Holden Astra is not sold in the USA, we do not have access to the repair manual, so I am unable to provide the replacement instructions.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.
