High RPM while driving decelerates when tying to accelerate

When driving my car the rpms go up high the car decelerates even when pressing gas. If I pull over and put the car in park turn off and crank again it seems fine. I do not know what the problem is.

Good morning.

Is the check engine light on? If it is, can you get the codes for me? It will help narrow down the area of failure. You can have them read for free at a parts store. They should give you a print out with the numbers listed.

If you decide you would like to conduct the scan yourself here is a link to an article from this site that features written step by step instructions and pictures explaining how to do the scan yourself. Also, I have included a link to our YouTube channel with a how to video on code scanning.

This is applicable even if your check engine light is not on.

Most scanners are inexpensive to purchase, you can purchase one online from sites like Amazon.com
