Fan does not work on heat or defrost

My heater only works on vent. If I put on heat or defrost the fan does not work, but I put it on vent or any other setting the fan works fine. I get heat from the vent setting but why will my fan not work on heat and defrost?

Pull the fan switch / heater control assembly out and inspect the connector and switch for blackened terminals. If you see that, try to post a photo and I will describe how I repair those.
