Hello,

I have a rattle coming from the heat shielding around my exhaust pipe. There are many loose sections. I used a worm gear clamp to tighten one section, but the noise persists from another section where the exhaust pipe is simply not snug in between two pieces of heat shielding. I do not think that clamping the outside of this section would do anything. This might sound stupid, but I fit a very slim rock in between the heat shielding and the exhaust pipe and the noise stopped for about a week before the rock wore down, I guess. What would you recommend doing? I have seen that some people simply remove their heat shields, which stops the noise but perhaps causes other issues.

Thanks for your help.

It sounds to me as though the welds have broke loose. This should be the part number from walker and a link to the catalytic converter which has the shield welded to it as far as I can see.
PART NUMBER: 55585

Here is one for sale for $144.00. If the shield cannot be welded back on then I suppose you will have to replace it. https://www.carid.com/walker/ultra-direct-fit-rear-catalytic-converter-mpn-55585.html

A visit to an exhaust repair shop if you do not have a MIG welder will fix this problem. They should be able to re weld and loose or broken heat shield fairly quickly, removing the shield will cause more problems so do not go down this part.
