I attached the procedure for installing the distributor.
As far as the top dead center, remove the number 1 spark plug and put a screwdriver into the cylinder. Rotate the motor until the screwdriver comes out the furthest. When it does, the mark on the crank pulley should line up with the scale as in the pictures.
You need to make sure it is the compression stroke. The valves in number 1 should both be closed. Otherwise, you will be 180 degrees out of time.
