The vehicle listed above is a Hatchback. When the passenger side door is unlocked, *not through the electronic lock/unlock button, but rather the actual pivoting physical door lock, the back hatch opens.

Hi,

We all love technology until something like this happens. LOL Wow, that is a good one. I suspect something within the body control module may have failed, but we need to test a few things.

First, you need to remove the door panel to see inside the door. Make sure no wires are being shorted or pinched when you manually lock or unlock the door. If that appears to be fine, disconnect the power lock actuator and see if the problem still persists. If it doesn't, the actuator itself may have an internal short, somehow signaling the BCM to unlock the trunk. Note that I am basing this on the idea that this is the only door that does this.

I attached the wiring schematic below so that you would have a reference. Truthfully, nothing other than some kind of short that is internal in the actuator or the BCM is the only thing that I can even say at this point. Let us know once you try what I suggested so we can help further diagnose the issue.

I also noticed that some of the wiring is completed via the CAN bus. CAN stands for Controller Area Network. Something is likely moving when you lock and unlock the door manually and causing a short. That makes more sense to me. Pay close attention to the wiring and make sure the lock linkage isn't hitting or rubbing any wiring.

Take care,

Joe

See pics below. Note: I had to cut the schematic in half to make it readable. I did overlap the two so you can follow from one to the next.
