I have 1997 4a-fe 60i that only starts if I press the accelerator pedal fully for a while. It starts and does not idle if I remove my foot off of the pedal. It started after I replaced the original distributor with the aftermarket distributor. It will only idle if I increase idling screw.

It sounds like you have the ignition timing off or the fuel pressure regulator is leaking. Remove the vacuum line to see if there is fuel present and if so, replace the regulator.

Here is a guide to help as well:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/engine-cranks-excessively-before-starting

Timing BTDC

Note: Terminals TE1 and E1 connected with SST 09843-18020. 10 +/-2 deg @ 700+/-50 rpm

Please go over this guide and get back to us.
