Metal-on-metal grinding sound?

I pulled out from my mother's house, and it was a metal-on-metal grinding sound. It was extremely loud and the only time it stopped was when I was turning. I jacked up the front end of my car and put it in drive and one wheel would spin but the other was not until I hit the gas and when I gave it consistent gas you could hear a grind not constant but sporadically. I noticed every time it did my traction control was kicking in on my dash.

Hi,

It sounds like the brake pads are worn. Have you inspected the pads and rotors? As far as only one wheel turning when it was lifted, that is normal. Power is distributed to the wheel with the least amount of resistance.

Check that and let me know what you find.

Also, when you had it off the ground, did you check to see if there is any play in the wheel itself? This could also be a bearing issue, but that usually doesn't happen all at once.

Let me know.

Joe
