Approximately 5 years ago, we had a repair work done to the brakes all around. The truck felt like it was hesitating - something holding it back - or the rear brakes had froze on to the disks (the smell was terrible - like burnt rubber. Just the other day, the same thing happened. We have been advised by a mechanic that the rear parking brake was left on (not disengaged). This is odd because we NEVER use the parking/emergency break. Is there possibly some other type of faulty part in the in this parking brake set up that would fail or become dislodged over time so that the parking brake would engage itself?

Hello well usually on any GM models that have rear disk brakes there is a arm on the back side of the backing plate that the e brake cable is attached to for any reason if you don't use the parking brake at all it will freeze up because water gets traped behind the backing plate and there is no where for it to go until it drys up. So if the parking brake was applied at any time this is why it won't release. Hope is will be of some kind of help to you.
