Air Conditioning problem
1992 GMC Suburban V8 Four Wheel Drive 222,000 miles

What is the freon capacity of my 1993 1500 4 Wheel Drive Suburban? Air was not cooling very well and I added one can of freon, which helped the cooling capability. However, it is still not cooling well in hot conditions. I am worndering if I should try adding one more can or if I should take to an AC repair to have the system vacuumed and filled to the correct freon level. It is an old truck and hate to break the AC by adding more freon, but also do not want to spend a lot of money to address this AC issue.

Thanks for any advice you can provide.

If the compressor is staying engaged, it most likely has enough charge in it that the system should blow cool air, if nothing is wrong with the compressor. Has this been switched over to 134a? Your best bet would be to at least have a shop hang gauges on it to check the pressures to see if the compressor is putting out enough high-side pressure to create the cold air. You can put more in, but if the comp isnt up to spec it wont get cold. With rear air your truck should hold about 60 ounces of R-12, 134a is slightly different, that is the big reason for using gauges to properly charge it
