Transmission problem
1978 GMC Suburban V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Can you please tell me what transmission came with this vehicle?
All I have are these numbers printed on the delivery slip in the glove compartment.
under the first column:
1V02 H.D. Transmission OI
under the second column:
1MX7 auto transmission

OR can you tell me where to go to find this out? The local dealer's records only go back to 1980.

Try the internet by typing in gm transmission identification. Also on your vehicle there may be some stamped numbers on the side of the transmission rail by the pan on the driver's side. Being a 1978 if it is a big block-454 it is probably a thm400 or a small block probably a thm350
