I just bought a 2000 gmc sierra extended cab with a 4.8 V8. The problem is that my fuel gauge does not
work properly. It shows empty, it shows full, and it changes all the time. I have done some research and I have a electric pump in the tank which also has the float attached. The truck runs fine but the gauge is going to drive me crazy. What is my problem and how do I fix it. Can this be repaired or do I have to buy a new pump. And If I need a pump, who makes a good reasonable one.

I would say if the fuel gauge is the only one acting up, it is probably the contacts on the float arm or sensor resistor grid is worn. I believe you may be able to get a sensor only, and I would go with a factory part, but it is your choice. It is at your discretion whether or not you want to replace the pump, it would be more preventative at this point.
