Engine Mechanical problem
1997 GMC Sierra V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 121k miles

started fine went to work. Wouldnt start to go home. Checked fuel relay ok. No noise from fuel pump when turning on key. No fuel smell after numerous attempts to try to start, sprayed carb cleaner in butterfly and it turned over but wouldnt remain started. If it is the fuel pump, how do I change it out? The tow truck driver said to remove the truck bed for easy access to the fuel pump rather than dropping the fuel tank. Is this correct? If so, how is it done? Is there more to it than just removing the six bolts(?) Attaching the bed to the frame? Need help! Please!

Yes this sounds like your fuel pump quit. Now as for replacing it you need to first ask yourself if you are comfortable enough doing this. If you are then you need to figure out which is easiest for you. I drop the tank I don't have the means to lift the bed. If you have the means then lift the bed. To remove the bed you remove the six bolt and unplug the taillight wiring harness and put it on some saw horses. So it's up to you how you feel most comfortable to do this if you do not feel comfortable then find a good shop.
