Electrical problem
1999 GMC Safari 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive 178000 miles

just replaced the altanator and now the volt meter reads 10 volt and sometimes it jumps up to 14 volt and the battery dies. Seems like a short somewhere but dont know where to look for the short.

Do you

Did you test at alternator bat terminal, engine running? Just be careful and don't get leads or anything caught in belt or pulleys. The info shows two wire alternator, one circuit goes to the battery, the other is excite voltage, without excite voltage, the alternator won't charge.
