How do I deduce problem with master or slave cylinder? resevoir went dry, filled and tried to bleed, no pressure, fluid barely drips out. will go into gear with difficulty but when clutch slightly released it lurches as if clutch is dumped and stalls

I would have to say its a bad slave cylinder
but visual check is needed
check for oil and or wetness inside by the paddle shaft or on the floor mat
and if so its the master no good and its leaking
