Trouble shifting & losing speed

1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme with 140,000 miles. My car has been having difficutly shifting out of 1st & 2nd gear. I was told it needed the transmission flushed. I had that done but that didn't fix the problem. Now it loses speed on the highway. It just starts slowing down. I literally have to put the pedal to the floor and wait for it to kick in and pick up speed again. Any suggestions?

Check your catalytic converter, when it plugs, the tranny cannot sense your speed due to power loss, and therefore wont shift, acting as a tranny problem, and significant power loss.
