On my 1996 Chevy S10 2.2L pickup the A/C isn't working properly. Earlier I asked a question, and I said condenser, and I ment compressor. My problem is that the clutch isn't engaging on the compressor. When I attempted to turn on the A/C I could hear the clutch trying to engage, (making a squalling sound) and I could also here a knocking sound. I have already gotten a freon charger kit, and there was plenty in there. Does it sound like the clutch plate is jammed, or could it be a fuse problem?

Nope, you have a classic bad A/C clutch. It is cheaper to replace the compressor than the clutch. Look at the clutch and you will see it has a brown tint. Replace the compressor, accumulator and orfice tube and it will fix the problem. The parts are about $450.00 at a parts house.
